Heritage Day

Happy Heritage Day!
This is always a vibrant day in the life of a South African. It's a time where we are united in celebrating our cultural differences. Living in a country where our diversity previously wasn't accepted, and is now treasured is beauty within itself.
A kaleidoscope of colour and prints is something that marks this special occasion- more so than other days. Everyone tends to get dressed up and we learn more about each other and ourselves.
I decided to wear what is known as a 'huis rokkie'. As the label suggests, it is mainly a kaftan worn in the house. However, I realised the print and colours had to make their way to the office. I was surprised at the appreciation this garment received. It's hard to see the beauty in something you are accustomed to seeing daily. You see it as 'normal' while it is adored by others. I think you can see this as something relevant to all aspects of your life and not only your clothing or your culture.
I was supposed to spend this Heritage morning running a 10 kilometre race. I was really excited for it as last year's race was not only pleasing to the eye but one that I was well prepared for. As a result, I managed to run it in a time that made me so proud of myself and the hard work I'd put in. Imagine the disappointment I experienced when I realised I was ill and now unable to do it. I will admit that I've been in bed, upset about this but I will look at the good in it. At least I can stay in bed, relax a little bit and start a new book. Reading fixes lots of things. ❤

~ Inception ~

Hello everyone,

As many of you know, I've wanted to start a blog for years and now I've finally gotten down to it. Hence, the title of this post: Inception, which (if you don't already know) is the beginning and commencement of something new.
I am really excited to share all that I can with you.

Being my first post I was quite camera shy. In time, I hope to warm up to the camera but I hope you enjoy this outfit post anyway:

Vest: Gap
Shirt: Diesel
Skirt: Cotton On
Heels: Zara
Bag: Aldo
Necklace: Unknown (I picked it off my friend)
Watch: Casio
Rings: Camden Market

Photo's by: Rafiq Sarlie (He's quite the gifted photographer, you should check his stuff out.)

These pictures were taken a couple of Sundays ago. I'm enjoying the hot (sweltering) weather in Johannesburg along with the occasional rainy day here and there. This was taken on one of these warm days.

As the name of this blog states, I am a lover of denim. Denim in my wardrobe is an essential. Not only is it comfortable but extremely versatile and I enjoy playing around with the current assortments one can find in stores and in your friend's and family member's wardrobes. This denim shirt is one of my favorites and came to me at quite bargain. At the time I bought a size bigger than what I usually wear because it was the only one they had left and it turned out to be a great a choice. The bigger size gives it a more worn in look and allows me to layer under and over it if need be. I love wearing it this way, tied up in front because it's reminiscent of the 90s, which evokes a lot of happy childhood memories and fashion inspiration.

I tend to ramble and this post was supposed to be short. Lemme know what you thought of this post and what kinda posts you would like to see over here. As you may have guessed, I do not plan on only sharing posts on fashion but many other things, so don't go anywhere.

Lots of love,

Raeesa
